Terms of Service
Last updated: February 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using passw0rd ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Service.
2. Description of Service
passw0rd is a zero-knowledge, end-to-end encrypted password manager. The Service allows you to store, manage, and retrieve encrypted credentials. All encryption and decryption occurs exclusively on your device — we never have access to your master password or decrypted data.
3. Accounts and Registration
You may use the Service with a cloud-synced account (via Google, GitHub, or Passkey authentication) or in local-only mode without creating an account. When using a cloud account, you are responsible for maintaining the security of your authentication credentials. You must be at least 13 years of age to use the Service.
4. Zero-Knowledge Architecture
The Service is designed so that your master password and derived encryption keys never leave your device. We store only encrypted data (ciphertext), initialization vectors, and salts. We cannot decrypt, access, or recover your stored passwords. If you lose your master password, your data cannot be recovered.
5. Local-Only Mode
When using local-only mode, all data is stored exclusively on your device. The Service does not transmit, sync, or back up your data to any server. You are solely responsible for backing up your local data. Loss of device access means loss of data.
6. Subscription Tiers and Payment
The Service offers free and paid tiers. Free accounts are limited to 50 stored passwords. Paid subscriptions (Pro Annual, Pro Lifetime) unlock unlimited storage. Payments are processed by Polar.sh. Refund policies are governed by Polar.sh's terms. We reserve the right to modify pricing with 30 days' notice.
7. Acceptable Use
You agree not to: (a) use the Service for any unlawful purpose; (b) attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or interfere with the Service's infrastructure; (c) share your account credentials with others; (d) attempt to access another user's encrypted data; or (e) use the Service to store content that violates applicable law.
8. Intellectual Property
passw0rd is open-source software released under the MIT License. You retain all rights to the data you store using the Service. The passw0rd name, logo, and branding are the property of the passw0rd project.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR COMPLETELY SECURE. YOU USE THE SERVICE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
10. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, PASSW0RD AND ITS CONTRIBUTORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, REGARDLESS OF THE CAUSE OF ACTION.
11. Data Retention and Termination
You may delete your account and all associated encrypted data at any time. Upon account deletion, all encrypted vault entries and authentication records are permanently removed from our servers. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
12. Changes to Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify users of material changes by posting the updated terms on this page with a revised date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
13. Contact
For questions about these terms, contact support@usepassw0rd.com. Please note: due to our zero-knowledge design, we cannot recover your master password or decrypt your vault.
